The 'Why'

My story in kidswear began with a series of observations. Why do kids' clothes abroad look so stylish and cool, and the ones in India look loud and kinda tacky? Does India have a market for kidswear that's minimal and design forward and not just cartoony and colourful. Does playful automatically mean childish? 

Ikimono was started to answer all these questions and address those gaps. 

With 8 years of agency experience as a graphic designer and illustrator which involved working with upcoming d2c kids brands, the gaps in the kidswear industry stood out to me even more. Aesthetically, Functionally, kidswear in India is not where it should be. Whats more? One of India’s best offerings, ORGANIC COTTON, is being exported so that brands like HA, GAP, HM, ZARA could use it. 

India needs a kidswear brand that it can be proud of. One that celebrates childhoods’ wonders and doesnt ask kids to be little adults. One that's made for Indian climate and lifestyles but upholds international standards of product safety and quality. And finally, one that looks and feels UBER premium, but is accessible for the Modern Indian family, because good kidswear should be for everyone.

Enter Ikimono! We may have started small but we’ve started right! Our clothes are cute, minimal and playful. Everything we create is gender neutral, comfy enough for naptime and sturdy enough for the playground. Our cotton is 100% organic, export quality and GOTS Certified, which means it’s the safest most sustainable cotton out there. We take a no compromise approach to our quality.

But our mission goes a little deeper. We want to create beautiful basics that celebrate curiosity, creativity and play through comfy cute clothes! Because if kids are not comfy, how can they be curious? We want to redefine the way Indian parents approach kidswear in India! Bcause there has to be more than loud colours and childish prints. And we want to create an Indian kidswear brand for the entire world! Because India is already doing it for the big corporations.
